Pathology in the Same Building
Australian Clinical Labs opened a pathology collection centre inside Thorpe Street Health on 1 September 2026. The centre is at 57 Thorpe Street, Rockingham, and Clinical Labs collects samples from 8:30am to 12:30pm, Monday to Friday.
Patients can bring a valid pathology request form from any Australian pathology provider. If you already have a form, you can attend without booking an appointment with one of our GPs.
Clinical Labs finishes collecting samples at 12:30pm. The practice stays open for GP and allied health appointments after that.
Who Operates the Collection Centre
Australian Clinical Labs operates the collection centre inside Thorpe Street Health. Clinical Labs collects and processes the samples. It also handles the billing and sends the results to the referring clinician.
Thorpe Street Health provides GP and allied health services in the same building. One of our GPs can issue a pathology request when testing is appropriate, and Clinical Labs also accepts valid requests from other doctors and medical practices.
Australian Clinical Labs is a national provider, operating more than 1,200 approved collection centres and 50 NATA-accredited laboratories. Its laboratories take part in external quality assurance programmes, including those run by the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia.
What to Bring, and Whether to Fast
Clinical Labs asks patients to bring a valid pathology request form, a valid Medicare or Department of Veterans' Affairs card, and any preparation instructions their doctor has given them. Paper and electronic referrals are both accepted, and your form does not need to display the Clinical Labs name.
Clinical Labs advises that most routine collections do not require an appointment. Some specialised tests need a booking or specific preparation, and not every collection centre provides every specialised collection, so check with Clinical Labs first if your request carries special instructions.
Fast only when your doctor or the test instructions require it. Many blood tests do not need fasting at all.
Costs, and Where Results Go
Clinical Labs bulk bills most eligible pathology tests for patients with a valid Medicare card. Medicare does not fully cover some tests and limits how often it covers others, so those can carry an out-of-pocket cost. Ask Clinical Labs before your collection if you are unsure.
Clinical Labs sends results to the doctor or clinician who requested the test, and how long that takes depends on the testing. One of our GPs will review any result requested through this practice and will tell you whether you need a follow-up appointment.
If another doctor issued your request, contact that doctor about the results. Pathology collectors take the sample; they cannot interpret a result or give medical advice.
What This Changes for Patients
Before this, a blood test meant a second trip somewhere else after the appointment. Now the request can be issued upstairs and the sample taken in the same building, on the same visit, inside the collection hours.
Full details, including what to bring and the questions people ask most, are on the pathology page. If you are not sure whether you need a test, that is a question for a doctor: ring the practice on (08) 6147 6547.
