Bulk Billing and Fees in Rockingham

We bulk bill all eligible Medicare services at Thorpe Street Health. Here is what that means, what Medicare covers, and the few things that sit outside it.

GP appointments are bulk billed

Cost should not be the reason you put off seeing a doctor. Book online in under a minute, most weeks with an appointment in the same week.

Our general practice participates in the Australian Government's Bulk Billing Practice Incentive Program.

  • Bulk billing for all eligible Medicare servicesStandard GP consultations included.
  • No out-of-pocket cost on the dayFor anything Medicare covers, you pay nothing at the counter.
  • DVA cards acceptedBring your Medicare card, and any concession or DVA card you hold.

Please note: Some services sit outside Medicare: certain procedures, medicals, consumables, some certificates and travel vaccinations. If yours does, reception will tell you the cost when you book, before your appointment rather than at the counter.

Allied health is billed differently: Exercise physiology is a private fee for service. A Medicare rebate applies when your GP has written you a Chronic Disease Management plan, and private health extras, DVA, NDIS and WorkCover are all accepted. Fees are listed in full on the exercise physiology page, so there is nothing to work out at the counter.

Where we stand

What You Will Pay

Seeing a GP

Nothing to pay at the counter

For anything Medicare covers, the visit is settled the moment it ends. There is no invoice, no claim to lodge and no rebate to chase. We bill Medicare directly.

Bring your Medicare card, and any concession or DVA card you hold. If you have changed name, address or card since your last visit, tell reception so the claim is not rejected.

Exercise physiology is a private fee for service, payable at the time of your consultation. Rebates apply in several situations, so what you pay out of pocket depends on which one you are in.

Bulk billed with a GP Management Plan

A 20 minute exercise physiology consultation is bulk billed when your GP has written you a Chronic Disease Management plan and referred you. Ask your GP whether a plan is right for you. It is a conversation worth having in an appointment you are already booking.

A standard consultation is 30 minutes and a long one is 45. The 60 minute appointment is for extended treatment and needs pre-approval from WorkCover or NDIS. A bulk billed Medicare consultation under a care plan runs 20 minutes.

  • Medicare rebates apply with a valid GP referral under a Chronic Disease Management plan.
  • Private health rebates apply with most major funds, depending on your level of extras cover.
  • DVA, NDIS and WorkCover claims are accepted. Eligibility and pre-approval may apply.
  • HICAPS is available, so a private health rebate can be claimed on the spot.
  • Payment is required at the time of consultation.
  • Cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice may incur a fee.

In plain English

What the billing words mean

These mean the same thing at every practice in Australia. Knowing them is most of what you need to ask the right question at any reception desk, not only ours.

Bulk billed
The practice bills Medicare directly for the whole fee and you pay nothing on the day. You show your Medicare card and sign or tap to confirm the claim.
Medicare rebate
The amount Medicare pays towards an appointment. On a bulk-billed visit it covers the fee entirely. On a private visit it is refunded to you afterwards.
Gap fee
The difference between what a practice charges and what Medicare rebates: the part you pay yourself. It varies by practice and by appointment type.
Private billing
You pay the practice and claim the Medicare rebate back. Without a Medicare number there is no rebate, so the full fee applies.

On the day

Bring Your Medicare Card

Medicare cannot be billed without your number, and an appointment that could have been bulk billed becomes a private one without it. It is the single most expensive thing to leave at home.

If the card itself is lost, the number alone is usually enough. Services Australia will give it to you over the phone, and it is in the myGov app if you have it set up.

Bring any concession card too: Pension, Health Care, Commonwealth Seniors or DVA. What they change depends on the appointment, and reception can tell you before you are seen.

Overseas visitors, and anyone without a valid Medicare card, are billed privately. Ring reception before you book and they will tell you what the appointment costs.

If a fee applies, you will be told before your appointment and before any treatment. Nothing is charged at this practice that you have not been told about first.
