For patients
New Patients in Rockingham
We open on 10 August 2026 and we are taking new patients from day one. No referral needed — one phone call is the whole process.

Why now
Appointment Availability at a New Practice
Getting in to see a GP in Rockingham is not easy, and getting a long appointment with one is harder. A practice that has just opened is the exception: the book is not full yet.
That is worth more than it sounds. A first appointment where the doctor has time to go through your history properly is the difference between being treated for a symptom and being looked after.
How it works
From phone call to first appointment
Call us to register
Ring (08) 6147 6547 between 8:00am – 5:30pm, Monday to Friday. Reception will take your details, ask what you need the appointment for, and find you a time with the right doctor.
Fill in the new patient form
A short form covering your history, your medicines and any allergies. Doing it before you arrive means the appointment is spent on you rather than on paperwork.
Come in a little early
Bring your Medicare card and your medicines list. There is free on-site parking, so a few minutes ahead is genuinely enough for reception to check everything over.
See your doctor
A first appointment covers your history as well as the reason you came in, so it runs longer than a routine visit. Tell us it is your first when you book and we will allow for it.
Before you come in
What to bring to your first appointment
None of it is compulsory and nobody will turn you away without it. Each one saves a question, and the last one saves the appointment.
Your Medicare card
Or the number, if the card is lost. Medicare cannot be billed without it.
Any concession or DVA card
Pension, Health Care or Commonwealth Seniors, and DVA cards.
A list of your medicines
Everything, including anything over the counter, vitamins and supplements.
A summary from your last doctor
A medical or discharge summary is ideal. Ask your previous practice for one before your first appointment.
Recent results and letters
Test results, specialist letters or a care plan from another practice.
Immunisation history
For children especially — it saves guessing at what is due.
Your questions, written down
The one you meant to ask is the one you forget. Bring the list.
Changing practices
Moving from another GP
You do not need to tell your old practice anything, and you do not need to collect your file yourself. Give reception the name of the practice and we send the request from our end.
A medical record only moves with your written consent, so there is a form to sign. That consent step is deliberate — a record should never move on a verbal request, including one that sounds exactly like yours.
Records can take a couple of weeks to arrive. Do not wait for them to book: your first appointment does not depend on the file being here, and your doctor will ask you what matters.
Before you need it
We are not an after-hours service
We are open 8:00am – 5:30pm Monday to Friday and closed at weekends and on public holidays. It is worth knowing where to go outside those hours before the night you need to know.
In an emergency
Call 000. Chest pain, difficulty breathing, serious bleeding or a suspected stroke — do not wait for us to open.
Urgent, not an emergency
Rockingham General Hospital — its emergency department, open 24 hours.

Questions new patients ask
Clear answers to the practical details patients need before booking or visiting the practice.
Call reception on (08) 6147 6547 and we will take your details and book your first appointment. There is a short new patient form covering your history, medicines and allergies. Filling it in before you arrive means your appointment is spent on you rather than on paperwork.
Find us and our hoursNo. Nobody needs a referral to see a general practitioner in Australia — you can ring and book directly. Referrals work the other way around: your GP writes one when you need to see a specialist, and it is one of the reasons to have a regular practice that knows you.
General practice at the clinicYour Medicare card, any concession or DVA card, and a list of every medicine you take including anything over the counter. If you have recent test results, specialist letters or a care plan from another practice, bring those too — it saves repeating tests you have already had.
Information for new patientsTell reception the name of your previous practice when you register and they will talk you through it. A transfer needs your written consent, and records are not instant — they can take a couple of weeks — so do not wait for them before you book. If you can bring a medical or discharge summary to your first appointment, that covers the gap.
Find us and our hoursAllow more time than you would for a routine visit. A first appointment covers your history, your medicines and what you actually came in about, and that does not fit into a standard slot. Tell reception it is your first visit when you book and we will allow for it.
General practice at the clinicYes, and it is worth asking for. One GP who knows a household sees the patterns that separate appointments miss. Ask reception to book you all with the same doctor and they will work around that, though you may wait a little longer for a time that suits everyone.
