What we cover
These are the things people most often book us for.
A full-body check using dermoscopy, with photography of anything worth watching and same-practice minor procedures where needed.
Structured assessments at the ages they matter — 45 to 49, 75 and over, and for people with a disability or chronic risk.
Blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and family history, put together into an actual risk figure rather than four separate numbers.
Cervical Screening Tests, including self-collection where that is what you would prefer.
Advice on the national programmes, what to do with a positive result, and referral where a scan is the right next step.
Risk scoring and blood testing for people with family history, weight change or gestational diabetes in the past.
Screening and advice, handled straightforwardly and without a lecture.
In detail
Most of what preventive care finds would have been found eventually anyway. The difference is that it gets found while it is small, and small is where the options are.
That is the whole argument for booking an appointment when you feel fine. It is also the appointment people put off the longest, because nothing is prompting it.
In detail
Western Australia has among the highest rates of skin cancer anywhere, and a full-body check takes time to do properly. Dr Perry Lee holds a Diploma in Dermoscopy and both he and Dr Ashwin Menon have skin cancer medicine among their clinical interests.
What happens
Tell reception it is a check rather than a problem, so enough time is set aside.
Previous results, family history, and anything you have noticed yourself — you know your own skin best.
A structured assessment or a full-body examination, depending on what you have booked.
A clear answer, a recall date if something needs watching, and a plan if anything needs doing.
Their qualifications, and what each of them focuses on.

It depends on your skin type, sun exposure and history. Your doctor will recommend an interval after the first check — for some people that is annually, for others less often, and anyone with a past skin cancer is usually seen more frequently.
More common questionsMost spots are harmless and simply get noted or photographed for comparison. If something needs removing, our doctors perform minor surgical procedures on site, and anything requiring specialist input is referred promptly.
More common questionsA one-off structured check offered to people in that age range who have a risk factor for chronic disease. It covers blood pressure, weight, blood sugar, cholesterol, lifestyle and family history, and produces a plan rather than just numbers.
More common questionsYes. Self-collection is available to everyone eligible for cervical screening and is just as accurate as a clinician-collected sample. Say when you book that it is what you would prefer.
More common questionsFor some tests, yes — cholesterol and glucose in particular. Your doctor will tell you when they order the test, and the pathology form will say so as well.
More common questionsThat is the right time. Screening is designed to find things before they cause symptoms, which is precisely when treatment is simplest. Feeling well is not evidence that nothing is worth checking.
More common questionsYes, and it genuinely helps. Write down what you have noticed, what runs in your family, and anything you have been meaning to ask, and bring it in rather than trying to remember on the spot.
More common questionsBook online with a GP, or call reception for exercise physiology.
